At midnight a little ferry slips across the black lake with twelve lanterns glowing on her strings. Big Bramble the bear steers, Ember the fox curls up on a coil of rope, Clover the rabbit snuggles close and Olive the owl blinks on top of the mast — and every page, as the friends grow sleepier, one lantern goes out. The same soft refrain, "one lantern… out," slows a little more each time, with gentle breathe-in, breathe-out cues, until the very last light is gone and only the Moon glows. A calming countdown story for ages 2–5, made for the last few minutes before sleep.
